Nudi Neon Yellow
12” x 12”
Nudi Neon Yellow
Photo Collage, Spray Paint, Acrylic and Resin on Wood Panel | 12×12 inches | 7/8" Deep | 2023 | Nudibranch Series
If Nudi Neon Green is midday, this is the hour before sunset.
The same Jamaica. Different light.
The same palm frond — photographed on the island, used again here as both collage element and spray paint stencil — moves through the composition as document and ghost simultaneously. The same leaf, the same hand that held the camera, the same Caribbean afternoon that produced the photograph now producing a second painting in a different frequency entirely. Where the green painting blazed with the full intensity of tropical noon, Nudi Neon Yellow burns with the particular warmth of Jamaican golden hour — that moment when the light goes horizontal and warm and everything it touches turns briefly, impossibly luminous.
The neon yellow blazes across the upper canvas like a sky on the edge of extraordinary. The teal circle reappears from the companion painting — a visual rhyme, a structural echo, the compositional thread that ties the two works together even as they stand completely alone. Hot pink dots fall again like tropical rain. The palm ghost moves through the neon again. The same island. The same frond. The same series. A different sun.
And the creatures — extraordinary.
A magnificent blue and black brain nudibranch dominates the upper left, its surface a mosaic of pattern so precise and so complex that it looks less like an animal and more like an illuminated manuscript, every cell a tiny universe of blue and black and gold. A green and black spotted nudibranch moves through the upper right with complete unhurried confidence. A blue nudibranch with black spots curves through the lower left — smaller, more intimate, a quieter note in a loud composition. And bottom right — a giant clam. Tridacna gigas. The largest bivalve on earth, its mantle a rippling landscape of blue and black and iridescent purple, ancient and geological and utterly grounding in a painting that otherwise burns with pure present-tense tropical energy.
At the centre — a double terminated crystal point. Clear, perfectly faceted, catching the yellow light and refracting it into something cooler and more still. The one moment of stillness in a composition of maximum movement. The eye of the storm. The crystal that the ocean and the island and the neon light all orbit around.
Created in a unique process combining original photographic collage, spray paint, hand-applied acrylic and a final layer of high-gloss resin — the surface luminous and deep, every element sealed in permanent suspension beneath the glass-like finish.
Nudi Neon Yellow was conceived as a pair with Nudi Neon Green — both inspired by the light and landscape of Jamaica. They are available individually or together.
